This is a representation of Stookie Bill, the head of the ventriloquist dummy that John Logie Baird famously uses to transmit the first true television image in October 1925. He uses the dummy because the lights for the experiments are too intense for any human to withstand. If you walk to the Esplanade you will find a bust of Logie Baird, also celebrating this wonderful inventor.
