When St. Bride’s Church was demolished in 199o, a local resident requested the cross from over the main door as a keepsake of such a beautiful edifice. Above is a hand-carved replica of the cross she saved. From where you stand you might perhaps have seen the tip of the church spire, just above the church here in the Square, directly in front of you.
On West King Street you’ll find the Library. Built on part of the site of St. Bride’s, it is home to three stained glass windows, saved from the demolished church and restored to their former glory. One of the windows is dedicated to the Rev John Baird, who supervised the building of St. Bride’s and ‘tended’ to the congregation for 42 years. His son, John Logie Baird, the inventor of television, has a dedicated plinth just across the Square.
