Helensburgh’s Railways

This is a local artist’s representation of the development of the railway in the late 1850’s to service the connection of Helensburgh to the central belt of Scotland. Building on the town’s reputation as a clean space in the country within reach of Glasgow, the inception of the railway had an enormous effect on the town as a tourist destination, particularly with the trains connecting with the steamers and paddle boats, embarking from Craigendoran and Helensburgh piers.
