Flower/Horn

This is an artist’s response to the eminent Victorian botanist, Joseph Dalton Hooker, who spent his summers in Helensburgh between 1831-37.  The flowers of some species of Rhododendrons have a classical horn shape very similar in form to the horn of a traditional gramophone. This is a hybrid of a Rhododendron flower/ gramophone horn, with two speakers embedded within two of the individual flowers/horns, which would play readings from Joseph Hooker’s memoirs.
